August 23: It is announced that Katy is the recipient of the 2011 Albert H. Maggs Award for Composition.This results in a commission for a new work to be composed in 2012 and performed 2012/13.
January: Sunburnt Aftertones has been broadcast numerous times in the 8 weeks since its release on international stations in USA, NZ, Netherlands, Sweden, South Africa and Canada. Many thanks are extended to the wonderful artists involved in its production.
February: I am travelling to The Banff Centre in Canada for an independent residency at the Leighton Artist Colony (3 weeks) over January/February. I will be working on a new string quartet piece and sketching out a concerto for bassoon (many thanks to Australia Council for the Arts and The Banff Centre for their support).
March: Premiere of The Domestic Sublime (Part 1) by Dr Rowena Cowley at Sydney Conservatorium of Music for soprano & piano. See Events for details. February - April: Listen in to 3MBS Musical Portraits program where I will curating three 'portraits' of wonderful Australian artists. Per Forsberg (tuba) will be giving a live recital on February 17th @ 6pm. The lovely Caerwen Martin (cello) joins me on March 17th @ 6pm and Mark Gaydon (bassoon) travels from Adelaide on April 21. May - August: Upcomingperformances by Syzygy Ensemble at Melbourne Recital Centre, Adelaide Youth Orchestra (see Events) and continued airplay of Sunburnt Aftertones particularly in the USA. I have also begun a new work for soprano saxophone and piano for Australian saxophonist Michael Duke and David Howie (piano) for their upcoming CD project. I also recently spent time in the studio with Per Forsberg, Katherine Shiel and Peter Sheridan who recorded Autumn Song for Fl, Tba and Pno.
September - December: Ironwood Quartet will perform Vertical Horizon at the beautiful Main Ridge Estate, Victoria,Greta Bradman will guest star with Syzygy Ensemble performing my song-cycle No Ordinary Traveller at Melbourne Recital Centre and there will be a new choral work premiered that I wrote for Eltham College for their tour to Singapore.
